Section 1
Objective of the Module: Universal History of the Biological Sciences
The objective of this module is to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the historical development of biological sciences from ancient times to the modern era. It aims to show how discoveries, theories, and technological advances have shaped our current knowledge of life and living organisms.
Through this module, students will:
-
Trace the evolution of biological thought from early natural philosophy to modern biology.
 -
Identify the major scientists, discoveries, and milestones that contributed to the development of different biological disciplines (anatomy, physiology, cell theory, genetics, evolution, ecology, etc.).
 -
Understand the social, philosophical, and technological contexts that influenced biological research across centuries.
 -
Appreciate the interconnectedness of biology with other sciences such as chemistry, physics, and medicine.
 -
Develop a critical perspective on how scientific ideas evolve and how they impact human society and the environment.
