The general objectives of this course are as follows:
· Understand cellular compartmentalization;
· Understand the general organization of the cell, subcellular structures, and specializations (plasma membrane, nucleus, junctions, etc.);
· Understand the types of membrane transport;
· Understand the components of the cytoskeleton and their roles;
· Understand cell-cell interactions and their roles;
· Understand the main stages of protein synthesis and targeting;
· Understand the role and composition of each organelle (e.g., nucleus, reticulum, Golgi apparatus, lysosome, mitochondrion, etc.);
· Describe and understand cell signaling pathways;
· Understand some signaling abnormalities and pathologies.
