Tenses in Scientific texts

  1. Present Simple:
    • "Climatic Zone and Soil Properties Determine the Biodiversity..."
    • "Several autochthonous plants are well known..."
    • "In their natural environment, they live with a great amount of microbial species..."
    • "The results presented in this work highlight specific signatures..."
  2. Present Continuous: We use the present continuous (am/is/are + -ing) to talk about temporary things which have begun but haven't finished. They are often happening now, at this moment.
    • "plants are now viewed as a 'holobiont'."
  3. Present Perfect: The present perfect (present tense of the verb have and the past participle of a verb.) is used to indicate a link between the present and the past.
    • "Several autochthonous plants are well known as medicinal plants..."
    • "They have been used for centuries..."
    • "the results have highlighted specific signatures..."
  4. Past Simple:
    • "Soil sampling was performed during September 2018..."
    • "The plants were active during sampling..."
  5. Future Simple:
    • "This value is projected to increase and eventually double by 2050..."
