  1.         Knowledge of some the theoretical bases of corrosion.

  2.         To know of different types of corrosion.

  3.         Knowledge of different forms of corrosion.

  4.         Comprehend the corrosion's thermodynamic aspect.

  5.         To understand the corrosion's kinetic aspect.

  Prerequisites

  In order to achieve the objectives of this course, students must have certain prerequisites. They must know:

  • The basics of electrochemistry
  • Surface phenomena.
• 

  Detailed contents

  • Chapter 1 : Different types of corrosion : Electrochemical corrosion : Generalized corrosion (uniform and galvanic); Localized corrosion; Stress corrosion; Intergranular corrosion, etc. ; Chemical corrosion; Bacterial corrosion.

  • Chapter 2 : Phase diagrams : Potential-pH diagram , Applications

  • Chapter 3 : Different methods of protection : Coatings ; Inhibitors ; Cathodic protection.
