  • Chapter One: Recommendation and strategy for learning English

    • 1/ Dictionary.. a must to learn English

      a) Students should download an application for an online or offline English-Arabic dictionary and English-English dictionary.

      b) All new words should be translated to Arabic, and then a synonym in English should be added to a notebook that the student will have along the semester.

      Students can learn English by multiple of methods:

      a) Immerse in English speaking cultures by watching movies, TV Shows and reading Books, Novel..

    • Reading : Introduction to Botany (Alexey Shipunov)

      Instructions: 

      1/ During the course the first chapter will be read under the supervision of the teacher, a group discussion about the part treated, and the students should know:

      a) How to interpret the scientific message behind each Heading and subheading.

      b) Sentence structure.  

      c) Tenses used and grammar. (Adverbs, nouns, verbs, prepositions, active and passive voices, opposite, synonyms).

      d) Difficult words using online or preinstalled English-Arabic dictionary and after English-English dictionary.

      e) English scientific words inventory.

       

      2/ It is up to the students to continue reading the book following the same method to enrich the vocabulary and scientific English terminology.

  • Chapter two: Exploration of the main terminology used in Botany and Genetic sciences

    • Scientific article : 

      FLORISTIC CHARACTERIZATION OF MEDICINAL PLANTS USED IN RURAL COMMUNITIES (NORTH EASTERN DAHRA MOUNTAINS, ALGERIA).

      1/ Scientific article general structure:

      -Name of the Journal

      -Title

      -Abstract

      -Introduction

      -Materials and Methods

      -Results

      -Discussion

      -Conclusion.

      2/Instructions:

      a) Reading and group discussion. 

      b) Scientific text interpretation and reformulation.

      b) Sentence structure, tenses used, passive and active voice; specificity to scientific English use. 

      c) Difficult words using online or preinstalled English-Arabic dictionary and after English-English dictionary.

      d) Questions related to text comprehension.

  • Chapter three: How to write an email

  • Chapter four: Watching and listening

    • Instructions:

      In this chapter you have to watch a video in the classroom (you can find the link attached below for further consultation).

      A) The video is English subtitled, and you have to :

      1/ select difficult word, use dictionary to get definition. 

      2/ Select all tenses used.

      3/ Be attentive to word pronunciation.

      B) Exercises: (Group discussion)

      1/ What is the main idea of the video watched? 

      2/ What are the tenses used?

      3/ Words definition and pronunciation.

      4/ Resume the main ideas treated by the documentary in 10 to 12 lines. (Individual work).
